Gunmen Flee as Security Forces Rescue NECO Victims in Kogi

Four people abducted during a recent attack on a secondary school in Kogi State have been rescued, the state government has confirmed.

The victims, two students, a school principal, and a National Examinations Council (NECO) official, were kidnapped on Tuesday while sitting for exams at Government Secondary School in Dekina Local Government Area.

In a statement on Thursday, Commissioner for Information Kingsley Fanwo said the victims regained their freedom following a coordinated security operation ordered by Governor Ahmed Ododo.

The operation involved the Nigerian Army, police, Department of State Services (DSS), and local vigilantes, who combed nearby forests and mounted sustained pressure on the kidnappers.

Authorities said the attackers abandoned the victims and fled due to the heavy security presence. The rescued individuals are in stable condition and undergoing medical checks and debriefing.

Officials added that security forces remain in the area as efforts continue to track down the suspects and prevent further attacks.

The government also acknowledged support from President Bola Tinubu, who directed security agencies to assist in the rescue mission.
