Katsina State Governor and Chairman of the North-West Governors’ Forum, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, will on Monday, September 21, lead governors from the seven North-West states to a high-level side event at the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The event, titled “From Fragility to Opportunity: Locally Led Pathways to Peace, Resilience, and Investment in Fragile Contexts,” will feature the North-West Peace, Security, and Development Framework 2026–2030 and seek international partnerships and investment to support its implementation.
The framework was formally adopted and launched by the North-West Governors’ Forum in Abuja in March 2026 as a regional blueprint for addressing insecurity, organized crime, and socio-economic challenges through coordinated action.
At the New York event, the governors are expected to engage development partners, financial institutions, investors, and private-sector leaders on opportunities in agriculture, infrastructure, energy, technology, mining, and human capital.
The forum’s regional agenda has received support from the United Nations system, including the UN Development Programme (UNDP). The North-West Governors’ Forum has also previously engaged the UN on regional challenges, including insecurity, poverty, and the large number of out-of-school children.
The New York engagement is expected to focus on mobilizing financing and partnerships for the framework, under the regional message: “Seven States. One Ambition.”
