Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, has flagged off the distribution of 90,000 bags of 100kg assorted grains to vulnerable households across the state’s 34 Local Government Areas.

Governor Radda launched the exercise in Kaita Local Government Area on Wednesday, saying the intervention was aimed at providing immediate relief to families facing economic hardship while supporting the state’s broader food security efforts.
He directed officials, local government authorities, and community stakeholders to ensure the grains are distributed fairly and transparently, warning against favoritism, diversion, and other practices that could deny deserving residents access to the support.
Governor Radda said the state had improved its grassroots distribution system through Community Level Committees (CLCs), following lessons from an earlier distribution of another 90,000 bags of grains comprising millet, maize, and guinea corn.
He said the latest intervention was part of a wider strategy that combines immediate assistance with long-term investments in agriculture, irrigation, youth empowerment, and women’s economic participation.
According to Governor Radda, the state has also supported farmers with subsidized fertilizer and other inputs while expanding irrigation through pumps, tube wells, and other agricultural interventions.
He stressed that palliatives alone could not solve food insecurity, noting that empowering farmers to produce more food remained the sustainable solution.
The governor also recalled other interventions targeting vulnerable residents, including support for 7,220 widows and assistance to women engaged in Koko and Kosai businesses across the state’s 361 wards.
The Community Development Programme (CDP) State Coordinator, Kamaladden Kabir, said the CLCs would help identify and reach vulnerable households, including widows, elderly people, persons with disabilities, and low-income families.
He warned against the diversion, hoarding, or sale of the grains and said the exercise would be monitored and documented.
Commissioner for Special Duties, Zainab Musa Musawa, said the intervention was approved by Governor Radda to cushion the impact of rising food prices and strengthen food security across the state.
The Chairman of Kaita Local Government Area, Bello Lawal, and other stakeholders commended the intervention, describing it as timely and beneficial to residents.
The APC State Chairman, Bashir Gambo Saulawa, also praised Governor Radda’s administration for its interventions across various sectors.

The state government said the grain distribution would complement its ongoing investments in agriculture, education, healthcare, water supply, infrastructure, and economic empowerment.
