Katsina State Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda has inspected the Katsina State Abattoir as part of plans to modernize the facility and transform it into a major livestock processing hub.
Governor Radda said the government plans to fully automate the abattoir, restore its refrigeration system, and establish complementary industries within the complex.
The proposed facilities include a tannery, blood meal plant, rumen processing unit, organic manure factory, and water treatment plant.
The Commissioner for Livestock Development, Prof. Ahmed Mohammed Bakori, who conducted a round with Governor Radda, said the abattoir has the capacity to process 200 cattle and 500 sheep or goats daily.
Bakori said integrating the abattoir with the proposed processing plants would create direct and indirect jobs while increasing the state’s revenue.
Governor Radda said the project aligns with his administration’s focus on agriculture, value addition, and job creation.
He added that reviving the facility would improve hygiene and efficiency in meat processing, reduce waste, and boost Katsina’s internally generated revenue.
The development is part of the administration’s wider livestock reform agenda, which includes expanding modern meat processing and reducing the movement of livestock in raw form.
