Katsina State Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda has flagged off the distribution of medical supplies and equipment worth about $1.7 million to General Hospitals and Primary Healthcare Centres across the state.
The intervention, launched Saturday at the Salihu Malle Central Medical Stores in Katsina, includes two containers of medical consumables donated by Baitulmaal valued at about $1.5 million and hospital equipment worth approximately $200,000 provided through the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare’s Sector-Wide Approach (SWAP) program.
Governor Radda thanked Baitulmaal for its continued support and directed beneficiary health facilities to properly utilize, maintain, and protect the supplies and equipment.
He said the items were provided to help government improve healthcare services, particularly for vulnerable residents seeking treatment in public health facilities.
The Commissioner for Health, Musa Adamu Funtua, said the SWAP intervention was secured after Katsina met the required health-sector performance and reform conditions.
The Executive Secretary of the Drugs and Medical Supplies Agency, Fatima Shuaibu, also disclosed that the state had released ₦115 million under the Accelerating Nutrition Results in Nigeria (ANRiN) project to procure commodities for tackling malnutrition among children, pregnant women, and nursing mothers.
Speaking for Baitulmaal, Dr. Ahmed Ali Khalil pledged a stronger partnership with the state, saying the organization plans to send more consignments and expand its development programs in Katsina.
“This is only the beginning,” Khalil said, adding that future support would extend beyond medical supplies to other development initiatives.
The event was attended by Deputy Governor Faruk Lawal Jobe, members of the State Executive Council, heads of health agencies, development partners, and other stakeholders.
