Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has commissioned the upgraded Matazu Semi-Urban Water Supply Scheme, featuring 17 boreholes, a 350,000-litre ground storage tank, a 150,000-litre overhead tank, and solar-powered facilities.

Commissioning the project in Matazu Local Government Area, Governor Radda said the intervention was aimed at improving access to safe and reliable water for residents and neighboring communities.
The scheme, originally established in 1996, now has 13 rehabilitated and four newly constructed boreholes, according to Governor Radda. He said the solar-powered inverter system would reduce reliance on public electricity and support more reliable water production and distribution.
Governor Radda urged residents and community leaders to protect the facility, prevent vandalism, and ensure its proper maintenance.
He also called on the Water Users Association and relevant government agencies to work together to sustain the scheme and promptly address faults.
The Commissioner for Water Resources, Mannir Ayuba Sullubawa, said the project was part of the state government’s wider effort to rehabilitate and expand water infrastructure across Katsina State.
He appealed to beneficiary communities to take ownership of the facilities and ensure they remain functional.
The District Head of Matazu, Alhaji Iro Maikano, commended the government for the intervention and appealed for the construction of the Gwarjo-Mazoji road to improve connectivity and support agricultural activities in the area.

The commissioning was attended by government officials, lawmakers, traditional and religious leaders, local government chairmen, and other community stakeholders.
