Fulani Group Demands Billions in Compensation From Plateau Govt

The Voice of Fulani advocacy group has demanded monetary compensation from the Plateau State Government over alleged killings, cattle rustling, destruction of communities, and displacement of Fulani residents across the state.

The group made the demand in a communiqué issued after its congress in Jos on Friday, October 9, 2026, saying its members had suffered losses for more than two decades.

Its convener, Alhassan Lamido, said the group was still consulting Fulani leaders and documenting losses to determine the amount being sought, which he said could run into billions of naira.

Lamido listed Barkin Ladi, Riyom, Mangu, Bassa, Bokkos, Jos South, and Jos East among the areas where Fulani communities had allegedly suffered attacks by local militia groups.

He said the group was seeking both financial compensation and other measures to address the alleged injustices, while insisting that criminal acts by individuals should not be blamed on the entire Fulani community.

The demand comes amid persistent violence in Plateau State involving farming and herding communities, with attacks, killings, and cattle rustling contributing to tensions and cycles of reprisal violence. Recent reports have documented attacks on herders and livestock, as well as calls for stronger security measures.

The group said it would present a comprehensive account of its losses and a detailed breakdown of its demands to the government after completing its consultations.
