The Federal Government has launched a new digital human resource platform to automate postings, promotions and other personnel processes across the Federal Civil Service.
The platform, part of the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS), replaces manual processes with a fully digital system covering the entire employee lifecycle.
Speaking at the launch in Abuja, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack, said the initiative marks a shift toward a more efficient and technology-driven public service.
She explained that the system will handle staff postings, promotions, leave requests and records management digitally, ending the practice of lobbying for favourable postings.
“This platform institutionalises a better way of managing our workforce. Postings are now fully digital, no more lobbying,” she said.
The new system includes biometric enrolment, onboarding, payroll integration, employee mobility, and data analytics. It currently covers over 500 ministries, departments and agencies and more than one million federal employees.
Walson-Jack added that the platform would improve transparency, reduce delays, eliminate duplication and create reliable audit trails. Civil servants will also be able to access and update their records through a self-service portal.
The Accountant-General of the Federation, Shamseldeen Ogunjimi, described the upgrade as a major step in expanding IPPIS from payroll management to full human capital management, strengthening accountability and workforce planning.
Similarly, Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission, Tunji Olaopa, said the system would further eliminate inefficiencies and support data-driven decision-making in the public sector.
Developed by a Nigerian firm, the platform is also expected to reduce reliance on foreign software and enhance data security.
The government said the system will serve as a foundation for future integration with other public sector platforms, as part of efforts to build a more transparent and globally competitive civil service.
