The Enugu State Government has approved a new wave of infrastructure, housing, and tourism projects aimed at boosting economic growth across the state.
The approvals were made during the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting over the weekend, with officials saying the projects align with the administration’s goal of expanding the state’s economy to $30 billion.
Commissioners who briefed journalists said the projects cut across key sectors, including road construction, housing, tourism, and public infrastructure.
In the administrative sector, the government approved the completion and upgrade of the remaining sections of the State Secretariat complex, alongside the rehabilitation of existing wings.
On housing, the state plans to build 1,000 new residential units in the New Enugu City while also developing 18,000 additional homes at the Gateway Estate to address housing shortages.
Several road projects were also approved, including the 10.5km Igogoro–Amachara–Ikpamodo–Okpo–Amaada road, as well as flood control works and drainage repairs in parts of Nsukka.
In tourism, the council approved major projects such as the Ovu Lake Golf Resort, Akwuke and Attakwu tourism developments, and a cable car system linking Okpatu Hill to Awhum Waterfall.
Officials said the projects are expected to boost investment, improve living standards, and position Enugu as a major destination for business and tourism.
