The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered a residential building in Lagos where more than 100 sacks of empty alcoholic beverage bottles were allegedly stored for use in producing counterfeit drinks.

The agency said its Investigation and Enforcement Directorate discovered the bottles at 322B Meiran Road, Agbado Oke-Odo, following credible intelligence about activities at the location.
In a video released on Friday, an Assistant Director in the directorate, Kunle Ojo, said the bottles bore labels of different alcoholic beverage brands, including Action Bitter and Royal Circle Premium Whiskey.
Ojo said the bottles were suspected to be stockpiled for distribution to counterfeiters for reuse in the production of fake alcoholic drinks.
NAFDAC said the bottles were destroyed to prevent their reuse, warning that counterfeit alcoholic beverages pose a threat to public health.
The agency urged residents to report suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC office to help combat the production and distribution of counterfeit products.
