The Department of State Services (DSS) has directed its counsel to seek an adjournment of the cybercrime case against African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore until after the 2027 presidential election.
The DSS said the move was aimed at allowing Sowore to participate fully in the election without the court case hindering his political activities.
The case stems from Sowore’s August 2025 social media posts in which he referred to President Bola Tinubu as a “criminal.”
According to reports, DSS Director-General Oluwatosin Ajayi directed the agency’s counsel, Akinlolu Kehinde, SAN, to take steps to temporarily suspend the proceedings.
Kehinde confirmed that the agency would seek the court’s approval for an adjournment.
The DSS is expected to formally communicate its position to the Federal High Court when it resumes from its annual vacation in September.
The case has been before the court for nearly a year, while Sowore is expected to participate in the 2027 presidential election.
