Deeper Life Founder Kumuyi Speaks Against Family-Based Church Succession

Founder of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, William Kumuyi, has dismissed the idea of passing church leadership to family members, stating that no religious leader has the authority to transfer a ministry to a son.

Kumuyi made the remarks while addressing ongoing speculation about succession within his ministry and whether any of his children would assume leadership after him.

In a video that has circulated widely online, the cleric emphasised that the church belongs solely to Jesus Christ and not to any individual, including its founder.

He maintained that religious leadership should not be treated as a personal asset or inherited position, noting that biblical figures did not hand over spiritual authority to their offspring.

Kumuyi reiterated that he has no intention of transferring leadership of the ministry to any of his children, stressing that the direction of the church should remain guided by divine will rather than family ties.

His comments come amid broader conversations about succession practices in Nigerian churches, where leadership transitions within families have become increasingly common.
