The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize and use the modified digital logo of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
The ruling was delivered by Justice J.O. Abdulmalik following a suit filed by the party over INEC’s handling of its logo.
NDC leader and former Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson disclosed the development in a statement on Wednesday.
Dickson said the party’s National Executive Council had approved the modified logo and submitted it to INEC, which initially uploaded it before later removing it and reverting to the old logo without explanation.
He said the party went to court after efforts to resolve the matter with INEC failed.
Dickson described the judgment as a vindication of the party’s position and urged NDC candidates and members to immediately adopt the modified logo on campaign materials.
He said the new and old logos both feature the two-finger victory sign but maintained that the modified version is the authentic logo provided for in the party’s constitution.
INEC’s website currently lists the NDC logo as “by court order.”
