The Court of Appeal in Sokoto has dismissed Senator Sahabi Ya’u Kaura’s appeal and upheld a ruling directing the All Progressives Congress (APC) to conduct a fresh senatorial primary in Zamfara North.

The appellate court upheld the Federal High Court’s judgment in Gusau in favour of Dr Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, who challenged the conduct of the party’s primary election.
Bello Galadi, counsel to Shinkafi, told journalists after Tuesday’s judgment that the court dismissed Kaura’s appeal for lack of merit.
According to Galadi, the court rejected the senator’s argument that the Federal High Court lacked jurisdiction to hear the case. It also upheld the lower court’s finding that the evidence established non-compliance with the APC’s rules and guidelines.
The dispute followed Shinkafi’s claim that the APC failed to conduct a valid primary election in the district. On August 31, the Federal High Court ordered the party to hold a fresh exercise within 14 days.
Kaura subsequently appealed the ruling.
Shinkafi welcomed the latest judgment, describing it as a victory for democracy and fair political representation.
