Nigerian comedian and content creator Carter Efe has claimed that social media pressure influenced the decision of fellow content creators Peller and Jarvis to get married.
Carter made the claim while discussing relationships among content creators and the impact of social media engagement on their personal lives.
According to him, online comments and audience expectations can pressure couples into making decisions they might not otherwise make.
“The internet is crazy. It’s pressure them to marry,” he said.
Carter also questioned the authenticity of Peller and Jarvis’ relationship, describing their romance as closely tied to content creation. He said this was partly why he was not invited to their wedding, adding that Peller and Jarvis see him as a “witch.”
The comedian further said he would not date another content creator or celebrity because of the pressure that comes with having a relationship in the public eye.
Reflecting on his own past relationship, Carter said content creation once became so intertwined with his personal life that he struggled to make content without his partner.
He recalled that they sometimes had disagreements before appearing together on camera but still had to create content for their audience.
“We go fight, fight before we start content, before we even shoot, before we face camera,” he said.
Carter said the experience taught him not to allow social media audiences to dictate his personal relationships.
“I have to use my own brain. I said no. It cannot continue like this,” he said, warning that people could regret allowing internet pressure to influence their lives.
Peller and Jarvis, who rose to prominence through their joint TikTok content and livestreams, have since formalised their relationship through marriage ceremonies in Lagos.
