A violent clash between rival Boko Haram factions has reportedly left several senior commanders dead in Borno State.
Fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) launched an ambush on members of Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) near Bula Murge in Bama Local Government Area, according to security analyst Zagazola Makama.
The attack occurred in the Gargash area, where ISWAP fighters carried out a surprise assault, inflicting heavy casualties on the JAS faction.
Among those reportedly killed are senior commanders identified as Abu Ubaida, Modu Kori, Alhaji Modu, Mure, Zarkawi, Sheriff, and Modu Maye.
Intercepted communications suggest the attack threw JAS fighters into disarray, forcing survivors to begin relocating women and children to Bula Daloye after their camps were overrun.
The assault also led to the destruction of key settlements, including Bula Murge and Nguro Bafuye, which were set ablaze, wiping out shelters and logistics bases.
Security sources say the confrontation has significantly weakened the JAS faction, creating an opening for intensified military operations in the area.
Troops have reportedly been directed to sustain offensives across Miyanti, Bama, Kumshe, and surrounding communities to prevent regrouping by either faction.
Commanders have also been urged to maintain pressure on both groups as part of ongoing efforts to degrade insurgent activity around the southern fringes of the Sambisa Forest.
