Troops of the newly established 15 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have destroyed three camps allegedly operated by Indigenous People of Biafra/Eastern Security Network (IPOB/ESN) members in Anambra State.
The Army said three suspected IPOB/ESN members were killed during the operation, which was carried out in the early hours of Saturday, August 15, 2026, around Osuakwa, along the Ihiala-Ogbaru boundary.
According to a statement by the Army, the operation followed intelligence on suspected IPOB/ESN activities in the area. Troops, working with personnel of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Agunechemba Vigilante Group, raided the camps and engaged the suspects in a gun battle.
The camps were subsequently overrun and destroyed to prevent their use as operational bases.
Recovered items included an FN rifle with 10 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, a pump-action shotgun with five cartridges, 15 sticks of dynamite, four motorcycles, a gas cylinder, batteries, and radio chargers.
The Army also said troops arrested a suspected IPOB/ESN member identified as Chijioke, alongside two suspected accomplices, a man and a woman, who were found with six children.
The Commander of 15 Brigade commended the troops and other security personnel involved in the operation, describing it as a setback to criminal elements in the South-East.
The Army said the brigade would continue intelligence-led operations with other security agencies and local stakeholders to dismantle criminal networks and improve security across Anambra and the wider South-East.
