The Nigeria Police Force has arrested Adeniyi Adeyemi, who allegedly posed as Director-General of the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council, in Osun State.
Police confirmed that Adeyemi was picked up by the Intelligence Response Team shortly after a Federal High Court in Abuja issued a bench warrant for his arrest on Tuesday.
Osun Police spokesperson Abiodun Ojelabi said the suspect was apprehended at his hideout and is expected to be transferred to Abuja for further proceedings.
The arrest follows Adeyemi’s failure to appear in court for arraignment on charges including conspiracy, forgery, and impersonation. Justice Mohammed Umar ordered his arrest after dismissing claims by his lawyer that he stayed away due to security concerns.
Authorities allege that Adeyemi forged official documents, including a presidential appointment letter, and falsely operated a non-existent government agency from an office within the Federal Secretariat in Abuja.
A video circulating online shows Adeyemi in traditional attire, appearing tense as he responded reluctantly to police questioning during his arrest.
The case has been adjourned until September 30, 2026, for arraignment. If convicted, Adeyemi faces up to 21 years in prison for forgery and additional penalties for impersonation.
His arrest comes a day after he publicly denied evading authorities, claiming instead that his life was under threat and calling for an independent investigation into the allegations.
