The Federal High Court in Abuja has remanded Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi in Kuje Correctional Centre after he pleaded not guilty to an eight-count charge of conspiracy, forgery, and impersonation.
Adeyemi is accused of presenting himself as the Director-General of the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), an organization the Presidency says does not exist.
The charges, filed by the police in November 2025, allege that Adeyemi and two others, identified as Femi and Anu, whose surnames remain unknown and who are still at large, conspired to forge presidential appointment letters and other official documents.
According to the charge sheet, the alleged forged documents included a presidential appointment letter purportedly signed by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, presidential letterhead, requests for office space and land, and other documents purportedly issued by the State House.
One of the counts also accuses Adeyemi of falsely presenting himself as the Director-General of the PFIPC between 2024 and 2025.
The Presidency had in June 2026 disowned the organization, with Gbajabiamila stating that neither the PFIPC nor Adeyemi’s purported appointment was authorized by his office.
After Adeyemi entered his plea, prosecution counsel Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, told the court that the not-guilty plea meant the defendant had put himself up for trial. He urged the court to remand Adeyemi in custody pending trial.
Adeyemi’s lawyer, Genesis Francis, informed the court that a bail application had been filed and served on the prosecution.
Justice Mohammed Umar subsequently remanded Adeyemi in Kuje Correctional Centre and adjourned the case until October 12, 2026, for hearing of the bail application and further proceedings.
The court had earlier ordered Adeyemi’s arrest after he failed to appear for arraignment. He was arrested shortly afterwards, according to reports.
