Affa Church Attack: Three Suspected Kidnappers Arrested

Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has commended security agencies for arresting three suspected members of a kidnap gang linked to the August 2 attack on St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Inoyi-Affa, in Udi Local Government Area.

The suspects were arrested during a joint operation involving the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigerian Army, Police and Enugu State Forest Guard.

One suspected kidnapper was killed during a gun battle, while security operatives recovered four AK-47 rifles and ammunition.

Mbah, represented by Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, visited the state DSS headquarters on Monday night to see the arrested suspects.

Onyia also disclosed that two of the three victims abducted during the church attack, Seminarian Lawrence Igbo and Emmanuel Onwudi, had regained their freedom and identified the arrested suspects as their abductors.

The SSG said the state government would continue to invest in security and ensure that criminals are brought to justice.

He warned residents against providing information or support to criminal groups, saying those who aid such operations would also be tracked and prosecuted.

Onyia praised the DSS, Army, Police, Forest Guard and other security agencies for their collaboration in the operation, assuring residents that the government would continue working with security forces to protect lives and property.
