Yola, Adamawa State — The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Adamawa State, Maurice Vunobolki, says political godfatherism no longer determines election outcomes in the state.
Speaking to journalists at Yola International Airport after returning from Abuja with his certificate of return, Vunobolki attributed the decline of godfather influence to the emergence of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri in 2019, whom he said was elected without political backing from any godfather.
He insisted that Adamawa voters have consistently demonstrated independence in their electoral choices, noting that past elections in the state show that political heavyweights do not dictate outcomes.
The PDP candidate also called for unity within the party ahead of the 2027 elections, urging aggrieved members to resolve internal disputes and return to the fold. He described the PDP as a united “family” and expressed confidence in its chances of winning the next governorship race.
Vunobolki said his visit was not a campaign event but aimed at presenting certificates of return to party members and countering what he described as misinformation.
He reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive governance, stating that the people of Adamawa would ultimately decide the state’s political future.
