Minister of Works Dave Umahi has dismissed Peter Obi as a threat to President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Umahi spoke on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, where he described Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), as his brother and friend.
The former Ebonyi State governor said Obi was not the only presidential candidate from the South-East, arguing that the presence of other contenders could affect his chances in the region.
“Peter Obi is not a threat as far as I am concerned,” Umahi said, adding that he was not underestimating the former Anambra State governor.
Umahi also expressed confidence that Tinubu would make significant gains in the South-East in 2027, citing what he described as the administration’s efforts to address the region’s concerns.
Obi won all five South-East states, Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo, in the 2023 presidential election while running on the Labour Party platform.
Umahi said the APC could perform better in the region in 2027, arguing that the party’s record under Tinubu would attract more voters.
