2027: No Politician Is the Messiah — CAN

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has warned politicians and their supporters against using the name of Jesus Christ to advance partisan interests ahead of the 2027 general elections.

CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, issued the warning while reacting to comments by Precious Oruche, popularly known as Mama Pee, who referenced Jesus while making a political point about Peter Obi and the 2027 presidential election.

Okoh said political support must not blur the line between loyalty to a candidate and reverence for Christ.

“Jesus Christ is not a political candidate, a campaign slogan or a weapon to advance one politician against another,” he said.

The CAN president said Nigerians were free to support or criticise Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, President Bola Tinubu or any other candidate.

He, however, urged political actors to focus on competence, character, policies and performance, stressing that no politician should be portrayed as a messiah.

“No politician is the Messiah,” Okoh said.
