Working People United (WoPU) has commended President Bola Tinubu’s intervention to ease rising petrol prices, urging transport operators and food distributors to reduce fares and haulage charges.

The movement’s National Coordinator-General, Prince Williams Eniredonana Akporeha, said the Federal Government’s 30-day relief measure could ease the cost-of-living burden on workers, households, and small businesses if the savings translate into lower transportation and food costs.
WoPU called on commercial drivers, logistics companies, and haulage operators to reflect any reductions in fuel expenses in their charges, warning that Nigerians might not benefit fully if fares and distribution costs remain unchanged.
The group also urged relevant government agencies to monitor pricing practices and ensure consumers benefit from genuine cost reductions.
It added that the intervention should be supported by sustained measures to address high food production costs, distribution challenges, and inadequate transport infrastructure.
