Tyla’s Lagos Show Faces Backlash as VDM Issues Warning

Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has called on organizers to cancel South African singer Tyla’s upcoming concert in Lagos, citing ongoing xenophobic tensions.

In a video shared on his Facebook page on Thursday, VDM warned that the show, scheduled as part of Tyla’s world tour, “will not happen,” insisting that Nigerians should not support the artist amid reported hostility towards Nigerians in South Africa.

He referenced the case of Chidinma Adetshina, who is reportedly facing deportation proceedings in South Africa, as an example of the strained situation.

VDM also threatened to disrupt the event if it goes ahead, stating that organizers risk having the concert “brought down.”

The remarks have sparked mixed reactions online, with some Nigerians calling for a boycott of the concert, while others argue that music and entertainment should remain separate from political tensions.

Tyla’s management recently announced her global tour dates, which include a Lagos performance slated for December 22, 2026.
