Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have repelled a terrorist attack on a military base in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State, killing several attackers and rescuing nine abducted civilians.
The Nigerian Army confirmed that one soldier and a police officer were killed during the early morning gun battle, while two soldiers sustained injuries and are receiving treatment.
According to a statement by the Army’s 8 Division spokesman, Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, the attackers attempted to infiltrate a Forward Operating Base in Kasuwan Daji at about 1:40 a.m. on August 2, 2026.
Troops reportedly detected the movement of the terrorists and responded with heavy firepower, forcing them to retreat with casualties.
Reinforcements were later deployed, leading to a pursuit operation that resulted in the rescue of nine civilians abducted from nearby communities.
The Army said the area has been secured, with troops conducting follow-up operations to assess the extent of damage on the attackers and prevent further threats.
Military authorities dismissed reports suggesting higher casualties among security personnel, insisting that only two officers were killed.
The incident is the latest in a series of clashes between troops and armed groups in Zamfara, where Operation FANSAN YAMMA has recorded multiple rescues and disrupted attacks in recent weeks.
The Army reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing operations aimed at restoring security across the North-West.
