US President Donald Trump has blamed the Democratic Party’s sweeping victories in Tuesday’s midterm elections for a sharp fall in the American stock market.

Trump made the claim in a post on his Truth Social platform on Thursday, accusing Democrats of triggering the market decline through their strong electoral performance.
“The Stock Market crashed today because the Dumocrats had a big Tuesday. So sad to see, you only have yourselves to blame!” he wrote.
Wall Street suffered heavy losses on Thursday, with the technology-focused Nasdaq Composite falling 5.5 percent, its worst single-day performance since April 2025.
The S&P 500 dropped 4.4 percent, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 1,833 points, representing a 3.4 percent decline.
The sell-off was largely driven by concerns that Democratic lawmakers could introduce tougher regulations on artificial intelligence and restrict the expansion of data centres, which have attracted growing opposition from communities across the country.
The market downturn came a day after US stocks rallied following the Democrats’ strong election performance.
The party made significant gains across the country, winning control of both chambers of Congress and several governorships, including Georgia, while flipping traditionally Republican seats in states such as Texas, Kansas, Maine, and Iowa.
The results marked a major setback for Trump and the Republican Party, with investors now assessing how the Democrats’ expanded political influence could affect technology companies and the wider economy.
