Gunmen have killed a serving Nigerian Army officer, Colonel Abdussalam Ude, at his residence in the Kurudu area of Abuja, in an attack that also left his wife and two others injured.

Sources said the assailants stormed the officer’s home on Monday evening and attempted to abduct him or members of his family. Ude reportedly resisted, leading to a confrontation during which he and his wife were shot. His driver and security guard also sustained gunshot injuries and were rushed to hospital alongside his wife.
The officer, who hailed from Enugu State and was due for promotion next year, was said to have just returned from work when he ran into what appeared to be a coordinated ambush. Military authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
