President Bola Tinubu has returned to Nigeria after spending about four weeks in Europe on what the Presidency described as a working vacation.
Tinubu arrived at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, at about 6:22pm on Tuesday after departing Paris, France.
Speaking after his arrival, the President dismissed concerns about his health, saying he was “healthy, sound, and ready to go.”
“Rumours will always be emanating from politics. I am hale and strong. I am ready to work,” Tinubu told journalists.
The President left Nigeria on August 30 for London before proceeding to Paris. His stay was initially planned for three weeks but was later extended by a few days.
During his time in France, Tinubu met President Emmanuel Macron, business leaders, including Vincent Bolloré and Femi Otedola, and witnessed the signing of an agreement between Ogun State and DP World on a proposed Gateway Deep Sea Port and Blue Marine Economic Zone.
His prolonged absence generated political debate, particularly after he did not attend the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York. Vice President Kashim Shettima represented Nigeria at the gathering, while the Presidency maintained that Tinubu continued to direct government affairs from abroad.
Tinubu chose to return through Lagos to honor the memory of the late MKO Abiola. He is expected to attend the October 1 premiere of a film celebrating Abiola at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre, Iganmu, as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
The President is also expected to hold strategic meetings in Lagos before returning to Abuja.
