The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shuaibu, arrived in Maiduguri, Borno State, on Saturday, amid President Bola Tinubu’s directive to security agencies to rescue all abducted persons and eliminate terrorist and bandit camps across the country.

Shuaibu arrived at about 11am, 48 hours after the President issued the directive during a security meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, disclosed on October 15 that Tinubu had ordered service chiefs and other security agency heads to intensify operations to rescue kidnapped victims and dismantle terrorist camps nationwide.
Musa also said the President directed security agencies to provide a safe environment for Nigerians to participate in the elections scheduled for January.
It remains unclear whether Shuaibu’s visit was directly linked to the directive. However, sources indicated that the army chief was expected to meet with theatre, field and unit commanders across Borno State.
