President Bola Tinubu has directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate a purported “Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council” (PFIPC), described as a fictitious body.
In a statement issued by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency said the PFIPC was never established by the Federal Government and has no legal backing or executive approval.
The directive follows reports that an individual, Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, allegedly posed as the Director-General of the council and falsely claimed to be a presidential appointee.
The ICPC has been tasked to conclude its investigation within 30 days and submit a detailed report. The probe will examine alleged forged appointment letters and official documents, the use of false claims to obtain recognition and diplomatic support, including visa facilitation, and the opening of bank accounts under the guise of government agencies.
The investigation will also assess how the fake body gained apparent legitimacy, trace any funds linked to the scheme, and identify individuals or institutions that may have enabled the activities.
President Tinubu further directed the commission to uncover gaps in government procedures that may have been exploited and recommend measures to prevent similar incidents.
All ministries, departments, and agencies have been instructed to cooperate fully with the ICPC.
The President emphasised the need to protect the integrity of government institutions and ordered that anyone found culpable be dealt with according to the law.
