President Bola Tinubu says the newly approved reforms of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) are designed to equip young Nigerians with practical skills and improve their employability.

In a statement shared on Wednesday, Tinubu said the changes, approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Monday, are part of his administration’s commitment to creating opportunities for youth.
The reforms, described as the most significant since the scheme began in 1973, will retain the one-year national service but introduce skills-based training, digital innovation, and career-focused programmes.
Officials say the overhaul will also reposition the NYSC as a platform for youth empowerment, entrepreneurship, and national development, reflecting Nigeria’s current economic and social realities.
Tinubu noted that while the NYSC has promoted national unity for over five decades, the programme must evolve to meet modern demands and better prepare graduates for the workforce.
