The Presidential Campaign Council of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the growing dispute between FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and APC governors over the proposed Rainbow Coalition ahead of the 2027 elections.
PCC spokesman Ima Niboro described the dispute as an “internal disagreement” between political allies, saying both sides ultimately support Tinubu’s re-election.
Niboro urged Wike and the governors to stop their public exchanges and concentrate on grassroots mobilization, saying the disagreement would be resolved internally.
The APC Governors’ Forum, led by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, had rejected any political alliance capable of weakening the APC or affecting its candidates in the 2027 elections.
Wike, however, said his Rainbow Coalition was focused on mobilizing support for Tinubu and did not mean opposition parties would stop fielding candidates in other elections. He also criticized the APC governors as “politically lazy” over their opposition to the initiative.
APC chieftain Joe Igbokwe also called on Wike to meet with the governors and explain the coalition, arguing that the disagreement should be resolved through dialogue.
Former Voice of Nigeria Director-General Osita Okechukwu, meanwhile, urged Tinubu to maintain a broad political coalition and cautioned against calls to exclude Wike.
The dispute has intensified as political actors begin positioning for the 2027 elections, with concerns over whether competing political structures could affect APC candidates at state and local levels.
