President Bola Tinubu has approved the allocation of a property recovered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) as its new headquarters.
The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, disclosed this on Monday during the commissioning of the facility in Abuja.
Tijani said the property was allocated after the NDPC raised concerns that its expanding responsibilities and international profile were not matched by adequate office space.
He described the move as an example of putting recovered assets to productive use, saying a property linked to the proceeds of corruption had been converted into an institution dedicated to protecting Nigerians’ data.
NDPC National Commissioner, Vincent Olatunji, said the commission received approval for the property from the EFCC in July 2025, while renovation began in March 2026.
Olatunji said the commission had grown significantly since its establishment in 2022, noting that it has licensed 356 Data Protection Compliance Organisations and generated more than N12 billion in revenue over three years.
The new facility, located in Mbora District, Abuja, has about 56 office spaces and replaces the commission’s previous offices in different parts of the capital.
Tijani also said the government would need to strengthen data protection as Nigeria’s digital economy expands and artificial intelligence becomes more widely adopted.
