The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has called for the death penalty for individuals convicted of terrorism in Nigeria, urging that executions be carried out within seven days of judgment.

In a statement signed by its Executive Director, Ishaq Akintola, the group described life imprisonment for terrorists as too lenient and warned against housing convicted terrorists in correctional facilities alongside other inmates.
The call follows a recent ruling by the Federal High Court in Abuja, where two convicted terrorists, Abubakar Abba and Mahmud Usman, were sentenced to life imprisonment by Justice Emeka Nwite.
Reacting to the judgment, MURIC argued that terrorists remain a threat even while incarcerated, alleging they could coordinate further attacks from prison. The group urged the Federal Government to amend relevant laws to allow for capital punishment and ensure swift execution after sentencing.
MURIC maintained that stricter penalties would serve as a deterrent and enhance national security.
