The Nigerian stock market opened the week on a positive note on Monday, as investors recorded a gain of N288 billion, even as declining stocks outpaced gainers.

Market capitalization rose by 0.18 percent to N158.61 trillion, while the All-Share Index advanced by 446.85 points to close at 245,283.68.
The uptick lifted the market’s year-to-date return to 57.91 percent, underscoring sustained investor confidence despite mixed trading sentiment.
However, market breadth remained negative, with 39 losers compared to 25 gainers.
Eterna Plc and Caverton Offshore Support Group led the gainers with 10 per cent increases, while Omatek Ventures and AVA Capital also posted strong gains. Vitafoam Nigeria added 7.90 percent.
On the downside, Ecobank Transnational Incorporated topped the losers’ chart, dropping 9.95 percent. Cadbury Nigeria, Thomas Wyatt Nigeria, and WAPIC Insurance also recorded notable declines.
Trading activity weakened, with total volume falling by 2.12 per cent to 923.01 million shares valued at N37.85 billion across 72,544 deals.
Access Holdings emerged as the most traded stock by volume, while Aradel Holdings led in value terms.
The performance aligns with recent trends on the Nigerian Exchange, where modest gains have been recorded despite mixed market breadth and fluctuating investor activity.
