African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has rejected the Department of State Services’ (DSS) move to suspend his alleged cybercrime trial until after the 2027 presidential election.
Instead, Sowore is demanding the withdrawal of the charges and a public apology from the security agency.
The DSS had directed its counsel to seek a long adjournment of the case to allow Sowore participate fully in the 2027 election process.
But speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Monday, Sowore described the prosecution as an attempt to criminalise free speech and accused the DSS of trying to abandon a case it could not sustain.
He argued that the agency should formally withdraw the charges rather than seek to put the trial on hold.
Sowore also criticised the Federal Government’s removal of the fuel subsidy, blaming corruption and poor management for the country’s economic hardship.
The AAC candidate said he would restore the subsidy if elected president, fix government-owned refineries, tackle corruption and promote alternative energy sources.
He also defended his proposed N500,000 minimum wage and said his party was developing a mobile app that would allow volunteers to serve as polling agents and upload election results during the 2027 polls.
