OSPOLY, NANS demand probe into student’s death

The National Association of Nigerian Students, South-West Zone, and the management of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, have called for a thorough investigation into the death of Ayeni Ademiju.

Initial reports claimed Ademiju was stabbed during the NANS convention in Osogbo, Osun State, last Saturday, and later died.

However, NANS South-West Coordinator, Josiah Adeyemo, said available information indicated that the incident did not occur at the convention venue.

He urged the Osun State Police Command to investigate Ademiju’s movements, the people he was with before his death, possible disputes and other circumstances surrounding the incident.

Meanwhile, OSPOLY management said Ademiju was not a student of the institution at the time of his death.

In a statement signed by Registrar Abiodun Oloyede, the polytechnic said Ademiju was admitted into its part-time programme in 2023 but did not complete his registration or continue his studies.

The institution said he should therefore not be described as one of its students.
