Sowore Hospitalised After Ekiti Restaurant Attack

The Ekiti State Police Command has confirmed that African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, sustained injuries during an incident at a restaurant in Ado-Ekiti on Friday.

The police said Sowore was involved in an altercation with some individuals at a restaurant in the Dalimore area before officers were alerted and moved in to rescue him.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, said the activist sustained a minor injury and was receiving treatment at the Police Hospital in Ado-Ekiti.

The clarification followed reports on Sowore’s social media accounts alleging that armed men had attacked and kidnapped him and members of his team.

Sowore also accused the Department of State Services (DSS) of providing the attackers with his team’s location and alleged that they were government-sponsored. The allegations have not been independently verified.

However, the police dismissed the kidnapping claim, insisting that officers rescued him after receiving a distress call.

The command said Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, had ordered an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those involved.

It added that anyone found culpable would be brought to justice.
