An Assistant Superintendent of Police, Bala Wakili, has been killed during a gun battle with suspected bandits in Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Wakili, attached to the Kebbe Police Division, was reportedly leading an operation to repel armed attackers who invaded Girkau and Zugu villages on Monday afternoon.
Sources said the assailants stormed the communities around 4 p.m., rustling an unspecified number of livestock before security operatives engaged them in a firefight.
The attackers, said to be in large numbers, overpowered the security team, killing the officer and setting two patrol vehicles ablaze, one belonging to the police and the other to the Sokoto Community Guard Corps.
Bandit attacks have remained frequent in parts of Sokoto, with security forces often engaging armed groups in raids and counter-operations across affected communities.
