Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has urged wealthy individuals and business executives in Ghana to invest more in the country’s music industry, saying Nigerian artists benefit from stronger financial support from business leaders.

Speaking on the When We Sit podcast with broadcaster Serwaa Amihere, Sarkodie said many Ghanaian musicians rely largely on their own resources, while wealthy Nigerians are more willing to take financial risks to support local talent.
The rapper said he was surprised when he met Nigerian billionaire Tony Elumelu in London and learnt how much he was investing in a Nigerian artist he considered important to the future of Afrobeats. He did not disclose the amount.
Sarkodie noted that staging major concerts, including shows at London’s O2 Arena, requires significant funding, making private investment important to artists’ growth and international reach.
He urged Ghanaian business leaders to adopt a similar approach and provide financial backing for local musicians.
