Former West Ham United midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker has urged Bruno Fernandes to step down as Manchester United captain, saying the move could help improve his performances.

Reo-Coker made the suggestion while analyzing United’s 3-2 Champions League victory over AS Roma at Old Trafford on Tuesday.
Fernandes scored from the penalty spot as Matheus Cunha’s second-half brace completed a remarkable comeback after United had gone two goals down.
Speaking on CBS Sports Golazo, Reo-Coker acknowledged Fernandes’ quality but questioned whether he should continue carrying the responsibility of captaincy.
“You are a great player, but you’re not going to be the leader. Give it to someone else who you can be consistent with, and just take that burden of pressure off you,” he said.
His comments suggest that relieving Fernandes of the captaincy could allow the Portugal international to focus more on his individual performances.
