FG Congratulates Samson Adamu on CAF Top Job

The Federal Government has congratulated Nigerian football administrator Samson Adamu following his confirmation as the substantive General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The National Sports Commission (NSC) Chairman, Shehu Dikko, described the appointment as recognition of Adamu’s experience and contributions to African football administration.

Adamu joined CAF in 2018 as Director of Competitions before serving as Director of Tournaments and Events. He became Acting General Secretary in March 2026 following the resignation of his predecessor and was confirmed by CAF’s Executive Committee in November.

Shehu Dikko said his elevation demonstrated the ability of Nigerian sports administrators to secure leadership positions in international sports organizations.

He added that the appointment would strengthen Nigeria’s sports diplomacy and encourage more Nigerians to pursue careers in international sports administration.

The NSC chairman also highlighted Nigeria’s preparations to host the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly in Abuja on November 21 and the CAF Awards in Lagos on December 10, 2026.

He said the Federal Government remained committed to working with CAF and other stakeholders to develop Nigerian football and expand the economic opportunities in the sports sector.
