Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, has called on citizens to sustain prayers for peace, support security agencies, and reject the politicization of insecurity.
He made the appeal on Saturday at the 2026 Yaumul Shukur, an annual thanksgiving event commemorating the 1934 merger of Katsina and Daura provinces.
Radda stressed that security is a collective responsibility that must rise above political interests. He warned against exploiting violence for political gain, describing human life as sacred and urging unity in tackling insecurity.
The governor highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen security, including the recruitment and deployment of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps to complement conventional forces. He also commended recent joint operations by security agencies that reportedly neutralized over 40 bandits, including a key leader.
Radda paid tribute to prominent figures from the state, including former Presidents Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and Muhammadu Buhari, as well as notable jurists and scholars, for their contributions to national development.
He urged traditional rulers, religious leaders, and residents to continue praying for peaceful elections, unity, and progress in the state.
Also speaking, Commissioner for Religious Affairs Ishaq Shehu Dabai and organising committee chairman, Khadi Ahmed Muhammad, described the event as a call for gratitude and support for government efforts. The Emir of Daura, Umar Faruk Umar, emphasized the need to preserve the legacy of unity among the people.
Top government officials, including the deputy governor and members of the state executive council, attended the event.
