FIFA has opened an investigation into alleged racist abuse directed at popular streamer IShowSpeed during a 2026 World Cup match in Miami.
The incident reportedly occurred on July 3 during Argentina’s match against Cape Verde, where the American content creator, whose real name is Darren Watkins Jr., was livestreaming from the stands. FIFA said it became aware of the incident and “immediately initiated an investigation.”
Videos circulating online appear to show a supporter confronting the 21-year-old, with reports alleging the use of racial slurs.
In a statement, FIFA strongly condemned the incident, saying racism and discrimination “have no place in football or society.”
IShowSpeed, one of the world’s most-followed online creators with more than 57 million YouTube subscribers, has been attending and streaming matches under a partnership involving FIFA, YouTube, and Fox Sports.
Reports also suggest a separate incident of alleged racist behavior occurred during Argentina’s later match against Egypt, adding to concerns over discrimination at the tournament.
The investigation comes amid growing scrutiny over racist abuse in football, with global players’ union FIFPRO recently warning of a rise in such incidents during the World Cup.
