Demonstrators on Thursday gathered in Abuja to protest the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State, calling on the Federal Government to intensify rescue efforts.

The protesters, who assembled in large numbers across parts of the Federal Capital Territory, voiced strong concerns over the security situation, urging authorities to secure the immediate release of the victims.
Chants were directed at the government, with demonstrators demanding accountability and swift action, while also emphasising their constitutional right to peaceful assembly.
Some participants engaged security personnel at the scene, insisting on their right to protest and calling for cooperation from law enforcement agencies.
The protest follows the abduction incident in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, which has sparked widespread outrage and renewed concerns about the safety of schools and rural communities.
Meanwhile, Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, alleged that certain political figures were linked to the abduction, though no official confirmation has been provided.
The development comes amid continued pressure from the Nigeria Union of Teachers, which recently organised nationwide demonstrations demanding urgent government intervention and improved protection for schools.
