The Nigeria Police Force has placed its formations nationwide on red alert following intelligence of possible coordinated terrorist attacks on schools, places of worship, NYSC orientation camps, and other vulnerable locations.
The alert was contained in a September 13, 2026, wireless message issued by the Force Department of Operations in Abuja and circulated to police commands and specialized formations across the country.
According to the message, intelligence indicated increased mobilization of terrorist elements, including the movement of armed individuals from Katsina through Kaduna towards Plateau State.
Police formations were directed to intensify surveillance, patrols, stop-and-search operations, access control, and rapid response around vulnerable locations.
Commissioners of Police were also instructed to strengthen security along state borders and strategic routes and work with other security agencies, religious leaders, school authorities, and NYSC officials to improve intelligence sharing.
The development comes amid separate recent security warnings from the Nigerian Army and the Department of State Services over alleged plans to target worship centers, schools, NYSC camps, and other public gathering places.
