The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has confirmed the arrest of a key suspect linked to the vandalism of six transmission towers along the Yola–Jalingo 330kV line.
TCN said the damaged towers, T995, T998, T999, T1002, T1003 and T1004, were discovered on July 29, 2026, during a routine patrol. Engineers found that vandals had removed critical structural components, carting away about 130 tower parts and weakening the installations.
Following the discovery, TCN collaborated with the Nigeria Police Force and carried out a joint operation in the host community on July 30, engaging local leaders to help identify those responsible.
The company said the investigation yielded results on August 1, when police arrested a principal suspect and recovered part of the stolen materials. Authorities are continuing efforts to track down other members of the vandalism syndicate.
TCN condemned the attack, warning that vandalism of power infrastructure threatens electricity supply and undermines investments in the sector. It urged communities to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities around transmission facilities.
