Police Arrest 32, Recover N630,000 in Yobe

The Yobe State Police Command has arrested 32 suspects in separate operations targeting alleged extortion, drug offences and theft across the state.

The command’s spokesperson, ASP Yusuf Adamu Aliyu, disclosed this in a statement issued on behalf of Commissioner of Police Usman Kanfani Jibrin.

In one case, police arrested 32-year-old Auwal Mallam Ari of Goneri Hamlet, Yunusari Local Government Area, following a complaint of alleged extortion.

Police said Ari was linked to the alleged extortion of N130,000 from Goni Abdullahi of Baimari after threatening phone calls. He reportedly confessed and disclosed that the group had earlier collected another N500,000 from a resident of Goneri.

The police said Ari identified Audu Baimari as the alleged leader of the syndicate. Baimari remains at large.

A mobile phone, SIM card, and N630,000 suspected to be proceeds of crime were recovered.

In a separate night raid on criminal hotspots in Damaturu, police, working with other security agencies and vigilantes, arrested 32 suspects. Items recovered included Tramadol, Exol tablets, pipes allegedly used for inhaling substances, and spark lighters.

The command said the suspects would be charged to court after investigations are completed.
