Peter Onwubuariri, Presidential Media Aide, Dies at 48

President Bola Tinubu has mourned the death of Peter Onwubuariri, Assistant Director of Media at the Presidential Villa, who died at 48 after a prolonged illness.

Onwubuariri, a former North American Correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), died in Kano on Monday.

In a condolence statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described his death as a loss to the Presidency, NAN, the media community, and Nigeria.

Onwubuariri was posted to the Presidential Villa in 2014 and served in the media teams of three successive administrations: those of former Presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari and the current Tinubu administration.

Before joining the Villa, he rose through the ranks at NAN and became an Assistant Editor-in-Chief. He covered major national and international issues, including foreign affairs, telecommunications, politics, and finance.

Tinubu described him as a dedicated journalist and public servant whose professionalism, sound judgment, and calm disposition earned him the respect of colleagues and associates.

The President extended his condolences to Onwubuariri’s wife, Catherine, his three children, family, colleagues, and friends, and prayed for strength for the bereaved family.
